Every Carl Tanner Designs piece is thoughtfully crafted to be worn, loved, and passed on. Below you’ll find answers to the questions we hear most often about orders, returns, shipping, custom designs, our collections, and caring for your jewelry.
Orders & Returns

Can I return or exchange my jewelry?
We want you to love your piece. Because each item is made or finished to order, our return policy is a bit more specialized:
- Any item that has been “altered” (for example, sized) or custom-made is final sale and is excluded from return/refund.
- All earrings are excluded from return/refund for hygiene reasons.
- All other pieces returned without damage are eligible as described below.
If you’re unsure whether your piece is eligible, please contact us before sending it back so we can guide you.

What is your return window and refund policy?
For eligible, non-altered pieces returned without damage:
Within 30 days of purchase:
- Full store credit of the purchase price, including sales tax.
- Full refund less a 10% stocking fee and the applicable credit card fee charged to Carl Tanner Designs upon the initial purchase.
Within 30–60 days of purchase:
- Full store credit of the purchase price, including sales tax.
- Full refund less a 15% stocking fee and the applicable credit card fee charged to Carl Tanner Designs upon the initial purchase.
To begin a return, please email us at with your order number and a brief description of the piece. We will reply with next steps.

Can I cancel or change my order?
If you need to make a change shortly after placing your order, please contact us as soon as possible. Once work has begun on a custom piece or an item has been altered (for example, sized), changes or cancellations may no longer be possible. We’ll do our best to help based on where your order is in the process.
Shipping & Production Time

When will my order ship?
Our timelines reflect the care that goes into each piece:
- In-stock pieces with no alteration generally ship within 3–5 business days after your order is completed.
- Rings that need sizing typically ship within 2–3 weeks.
- Custom creations may take up to 6 weeks for completion and shipment.
After we receive your order and calculate the craft time, we will provide a more definitive estimated ship date.

Do you ship internationally?
Shipping options and costs are shown at checkout. If you have a question about shipping to a specific location, please reach out via our Contact page and we will let you know what is possible for your order.

How is my jewelry packaged for shipping?
Each piece is carefully packaged in presentation-ready packaging suitable for gifting, then placed in protective outer materials for its journey. We ship using reputable carriers, and we recommend keeping the original box and paperwork for your records.
Custom Designs, Build Your Inspiration & Sizing

What is “Build Your Inspiration”?
Build Your Inspiration is your invitation to collaborate directly with master jeweler Carl Tanner. You can start from a sketch, an heirloom piece, a favorite stone, or a design you’ve seen in our Premier Collection, Excellence in Sterling, or Exceptional Moissanite. Together, we refine the concept, select materials, and create a one-of-a-kind piece crafted just for you.

How long do custom designs take?
Most custom designs are completed and shipped within up to 6 weeks, depending on the complexity of the design, stone selection, and current studio schedule. After we receive your request, we will provide a more specific timeline for your piece.

What if I don’t know my ring size?
For the most accurate result, we recommend having your finger sized by a local jeweler, especially for wider bands or statement rings. You can also use a reputable ring sizer at home to double-check. If you need help selecting a size, contact us and we’ll gladly talk through options based on the design you have in mind.

Can you resize or repair a piece after I receive it?
In many cases, yes. Resizing and repairs depend on the specific design, stones, and wear of the piece. Please reach out with photos and your order information, and we will let you know what options are available and whether any additional cost will apply.

Moissanite is a lab-created gemstone known for its extraordinary brilliance and fire. It is very hard and durable, making it excellent for everyday wear in engagement rings and fine jewelry. Our Exceptional Moissanite designs are crafted to show off that sparkle while maintaining the refined aesthetic of Carl Tanner Designs.

How should I care for my jewelry?
Proper care helps your jewelry look beautiful for years:
- Remove jewelry before heavy work, sports, or using harsh chemicals.
- Store pieces separately in soft pouches or compartments to avoid scratches.
- Clean most gold and sterling silver jewelry with warm water, mild soap, and a soft brush, then pat dry.
- Certain gemstones require extra care; if you’re unsure, contact us and we’ll advise based on your piece.
